Show 28 - John Hughes and Star Wars?

Show 28 -John Hughes and Star Wars?

Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 28 - John Hughes and Star Wars? On this show Rob and Dave are again joined by Jay of the Super Movie Bros after recording the latest Movie Cocktail episode on 'Weird Science'. This show we tie in the Fan Film Boyz and Movie Cocktail again and we discuss the fan film Hughes the Force that was written, produced, and directed by J.C Reifenberg.

Hughes the Force was first released in May 2012 and is about two high school teens that are tortured by jocks and of course rejected by girls, when they are invited to a huge end of year party it comes with a catch, they have to bring a hot girl to get entry. Hughes the Force is a mesh of several different films, most noticeably Weird Science and Star Wars, with a sprinkling of Indiana Jones and Back to the Future references thrown in. We discuss this on the show including as well as the the differences between an omage vs a fan film, and whether have well known actors/actresses in a fan film gives it more street cred (spoiler alert there are some well known people in Hughes the Force).

So grab your lightabers and blasters, make sure that your Slave Leia is close by and join us as we discuss Hughes the Force!

Show 27 - The thing Myths and Legends are born from!

Show 27 - The thing Myths and Legends are born from!

Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 27 - The thing Myths and Legends are born from!  First of all we have a big announcement this Show, Dave of the Super Movie Bros Podcast who has been filling in as co-host for the past few Shows has officially become the new permanent co-host of the show, so welcome Dave!

If you did a search on YouTube on Predator Fan Films you will actually find a lot of them.  Almost all of them are similar to the original 1987 movie ‘Predator’ starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a soldier of fortune hired to rescue politicians, instead his team becomes the hunted in the jungle by the Predator.  However, if you go through the fan films, one will stand out as very different then the rest, and this is the film that the Fan Film Boyz discuss on this show ‘Predator: Dark Ages’.

Predator: Dark Ages was first published on YouTube in May 2015 and has already impressively been viewed over five million times, and was a winner of the ‘Best Fan Film’ at the Tri-Cities International Film Festival.  The reason that this film is different and special is because it is set during the Crusades, where men fought with swords and bows, not heavy weapons and explosives!

This film was funded with a successful Kickstarter campaign and it really shows with the money being put into the cinematography, costumes and with a few exceptions acting.  We go into a lot of detail and discussion on this film, including some awesome Predator Lore from Dave who is somewhat of a Predator expert!

Dave and Robert are again joined by Jay and Marc from the Movie Cocktail Podcast for this show so go saddle up your horse, call your Squire and strap on your sword and armor and lets go hunt some Predator, the Old School way!

Show 26 - Venatus/Hunted (Interview)

Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 26 - Venatus/Hunted (Interview).  Over the space of the last year we have had many amazing interviews with directors, writer and actors, but they have always been for films that have already been released and you can already see the end product.  On this show we have something special, a few weeks ago I managed to speak with Stephen Douchette, Laura Vedder and Joey Utah who are all involved with the currently in production fan film Star Wars: Venatus being made right here in New Jersey!

It was a pleasure to speak with this amazing group of people and learn more about how a fan film is being made, and learning more about the intricacies of film making in general.  Stephen, Laura and Joey each come from different backgrounds and it was interesting to learn how they came together, and what went into the project.  The gang at Star Wars: Venatus has already released a teaser trailer to help gather interest in the project and it is amazing!

So sit back, grab a warm drink because it is cold here in New Jersey and listen to us talk Star Wars, fan films and Venatus!

Show 25 - Who Goes There!

Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 25 - Who Goes There!

Back on November 25, 2017 the latest Ep 72: 'Movie Cocktail' Podcast (the other Podcast that I co-host)  was released and we talked all about 1982's 'The Thing'.  On this episode Dave and Jay of the Super Movie Bros, Marc and I went into a lot of detail about 'The Thing' a film I had never seen before doing this episode.  Right after we recorded that episode we all stayed and recorded this Fan Film Boyz show about two 'The Thing' fan films, 'The Thing II' (fanfilm sequel) and 'Who Goes There".

The original movie 'The Thing' was released in 1982 and was directed by John Carpenter and stars Kurt Russell and is about a alien lifeform that assimilates other organisms and then copies them.  Based in Antarctica, this science-fiction horror film has become a cult favorite among a lot of people (and SMB Dave loves it!).  These two 'The Thing' fan films could not be more different from each other, one is long and continues to tell the story as told in the original movie, a sequel.  The second is a attempt at remaking the original.  We all have different opinions on these two fan films so join us as we just like The Thing dissect and discuss them!

Show 18 - The Fallen

What is the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions HALO to you?  Is it the MasterChief, or the amazing gameplay?  After today's show what will come to your mind when someone mentions HALO is the fan film HALO - The Fallen!

Set during the events of HALO: Combat Evolved this fan film is about a group of soldiers fighting the Covenant across the Halo landscape.  This is one kick butt fan film and with funding from both a Kickstarter and Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign's it really shows.

In this show we go over some Facebook information (, and give a shout out to professional HALO player Paul Duarte (@SnakeBiteFPS), as well as having our very first #Podernfamily Break.

So join us, buckle up, lock and load as we prepare to discuss HALO - The Fallen.

Show 17 - Supermodels

First of all Robert and Michael would like to apologize for the past three weeks without a new show, we took some time off to clear some things up, second we would also like to apologize for the sound quality of this show.  It is not up to our usual standards so please forgive us.

That being said, the reason for the poor sound is because we have a VERY special guest on this show.  Screenwriter, Director, Awesome Guy, Colin Costello joins us all the way from the West Coast.  Colin talks about his amazing new book 'Supermodels' being released this Memorial Day, his short film 'The After Party' and it wouldn't be the Fan Film Boyz unless we talk fan films!  But, he also has a very special surprise for us that you will have to wait for the end of the show to find out (it is worth it, trust us!)

So join us as we talk with the creator of Supermodels.

Show 16 - Dare you to tell him, he's fired!

At the beginning of April, 2017 thousands of Stormtroopers, Jedi, Sith, Imperial Agents and other assorted aliens made their way to Orlando for the Star Wars Celebration convention.  In honor of this event held every two years we at the Fan Film Boyz Podcast have decided to go back to a topic we covered in Show 1, Star Wars fan films and we are talking about Darth Maul: Apprentice.

'With his training almost complete, Darth Maul must face six Jedi in order to reach his true potential, and become a Dark Lord of the Sith'  With over 12 million views on YouTube, this awesome Star Wars fan film was written, produced, and directed by Shawn Bu, Choreographed by V-Dan Tran and stars Ben Schamma as Darth Maul.

So grab your lightsaber and lets make the jump to lightspeed together as we talk Darth Maul: Apprentice.

It's Friday again Fan Film Fan's, and Show 15 - Calling All Browncoats is going to really make your day (or night depending on when you listen!).  On this Show we are talking about the short lived TV series and one time film Firefly/Serenity's feature length fan film Browncoats: Redemption.

Released in 2010 this 96 minute fan 'movie' is about the crew of the spaceship Redemption during the second rise of the Browncoats against the Alliance.  The Firefly series started Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk and only ran for one season, however, fans went crazy for those 14 episodes.  Browncoats: Redemption is a charity project and a pretty cool fan film.

So buckle your harness and 'lets go be bad guys as we discuss Browncoats: Redemption.

Show 14 - Robots in Disguise

Also on this show is a very special interview with the Assistant Director Jay Zarecki and actor Celeste Comeaux where we share our love of Transformers, what it took to make the film, what was involved and some very special news about a new upcoming Transformers fan film project!

So sit back and strap yourself into your chair, and join us as we discuss Transformers Generation Hero.

Show 13 - Fantastic Beasts Found at Universal

For lucky Show 13 we have gone all magical and we are reviewing the Harry Potter fan film 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Battle at Diagon Alley!' This film was created by the very talented film maker and special effects specialist Brittany Joiner (@bigcitysendout on Twitter) and is the first guerrilla film (a guerrilla film is a low budget film, often filmed in a location without permission), that we have ever reviewd and we are very excited to share it. This fan film was filmed at Orlando's Universal Studio's Diagon Alley and the YouTube description reads 'When Universal Studio's decides to create a Wizarding addition to their theme park the Death Eaters are not too happy. It's one man's job to stop them.'

Also for the first time ever we have a new promo section, on this show we feature the Super Movie Bros, a Pennsylvania based podcast so listen for that.

Show 12 - Disney and The Date

Last week I (Robert) took a quick little trip from New Jersey to Florida for a long weekend trip to Disney World, hence the reason that there was no show!  In honor of this trip, this week on Show 12 we are talking about a Disney inspired fan film, as well as discussing our favorite Disney moments from our own trips.

The Date is a live-action fan film inspired by the Pixar movie Inside Out.  When adult Riley goes on a date the emotions that we all know so well Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust try to keep her cool and calm.

Show 11 - Who is the World's Finest!

Show 11 is here!  In this Show we talk about the DC Comics fan film World's Finest, one of the semi-finalists in the 2017 Fanfilm Awards.  This fan film was inspired by Batman Vs. Superman and was actually finished before the movie was released and gives an alternate view on the world of these two great characters.

Also on this show we have an amazing interview with Tito Guillen who directed the film.  We recorded this interview before Christmas but we wanted to save it because it was probably one of the most insightful interviews about fan films that we have done so far.  Worlds Finest is a @hyperphotonic production under the @arkhamrising banner of films.
